Does the ride-sharing company Pathao’s privacy policy frighten users?

Pathao is a popular transportation and ride-sharing service in Bangladesh. However, reviewers at Google Play claim that the company is stealing personal data from its users.

What do users complain about?

Our analysis shows that the topic “data” is often mentioned in connection with “steals”. The average grade for “data” is 1,07, which is below average. It looks like this topic was popular in November and December 2018 and even though it has decreased in occurrence lately, it is still mentioned among users.

So what kind of personal data is stored? Well, looking at the topic “sms”, we can see that several users mention that the company stores SMS and contact information from users’ mobile phones.

We can also see that several people are annoyed because their food orders got canceled. The topic “orders” peaked in occurrence in June 2019 and it is mentioned together with “canceled” and “food”.

Although the company, of course, is performing better on other topics, there is a risk that people who go to Google Play Store are frightened by the data policy and decide to not take the risk to download the app and become a user.
