Sony PlayStation is a video gaming brand that has created video game consoles with one of the latest being the PlayStation 4 slim. Today it is one of the most popular entertainment systems. Sony is currently working on the next generation of console, PS5

We wanted to see what we could learn about PlayStation’s services and how they are being received by customers. So we took 1 924 reviews about PlayStation 4 slim from amazon and ran them through Gavagai explorer. Some things we learned really surprised us.

Here are 3 things we found out!

The topic “harddrive” is the biggest negative driver. “Harddrive” has an average grade of 2,84 / 5 compared to the overall average grade of 4,04 / 5. It has had a declining sentiment 2017. The topic is often mentioned with the word “size”.

The topic “Controller” is mentioned with words such as “connecting” and “charging”. It used to be talked about more in 2017 and less in 2019. However, the topic “battery” has been increasing in occurrence since 2017 and this may indicate discontent with the controller’s battery

When looking at the topic “store” we can see that the related topic “stream” is also increasing in occurrence. As of 2019 the topic “stream” has a 16% occurrence ratio compared to the dropping occurrence ratio of “games” which is 21%. This may indicate that the entertainment system is being used more for streaming and less for gaming.

What can we tell from this?

This analysis indicates that two areas of dissatisfaction to the customers are the controllers and the hard drive of the console. It might be a good idea to improve the battery life of the controllers as well as increasing the storage options for the device. Maybe offering a cloud service or similar services.

The analysis also indicates that many owners use the entertainment system for streaming. This might be something to keep in mind when it comes to future developments.
